This tutorial shows how one can crochet the slip knot and chain stitch. These two stitches are very important as almost all crochet patterns have them.
I am going to make this tutorial as simple as possible so even kids can learn to crochet.
Make a loop like shown above. The short tail is pointing down. The working yarn is traveling up.
Pass the hook through the loop as shown below.
Gently pull the working yarn through the loop.
Lift the hook up while holding the two ends of the yarn together and the loop will tighten around the hook.
This is how the slip knot looks like.
We are now ready to crochet chains.
The chain stitch forms the foundation for most patterns.
Start with the slip knot.
Wrap the yarn over the hook.
Pull the wrapped over yarn through the slip knot.
First chain is done.
Repeat this to add more chains.
Yarn over and pull through the loop.
Two crochet chains are done now.
Crochet as many chains as the pattern demands.
In crochet patterns, slip knot / slip stitch is denoted by a dot (.) and the chain stitch is denoted by an oval.
