This tutorial has step by step pictures demonstrating the weaving of this plastic wire flower vase. The diameter of the vase will increase when beads are used. These DIY vases were common in India during 1980s.
Wire – The number of wire pieces needed for this project depends on the size of the bangle as well as the desired number of petal like triangles at the top of the vase.
I cut 15 wire pieces that were 1.75 meters long.
Fold the wire into half and place it inside the bangle like shown below.
Pass the other two ends of the wire inside the loop and pull.
Add all the cut wires to the bangle.
The wires will be knotted with each other like shown below. To learn how to make this box / square knot, check this tutorial.
Weave the next row of box knots by joining wires that intersect each other.
Make 6 rows of knots.
For the next few rows, we will be using beads to expand. These red beads can be bought in shops that sell wires. But the hole size is a little small so I decided to use pony beads instead.
Add a bead to each wire.
Then make knots.
Repeat the same for the next row.
Diameter is increasing.
After 6 lines, stop adding beads and continue.
5 more lines later, add beads and start making the triangles.
Each triangle will have 3 knots as the base. So 5 triangles will be formed because we started with 15 wires.
Make sure you have enough beads before you start the project. If you are going to use taller beads, cut more wire.
Tuck in the excess wire like shown below.
Artificial flowers can be kept inside. A small bottle filled with water can also be placed inside if using real flowers.
