Moong dal nei urundai (பாசிப்பருப்பு நெய் உருண்டை) is an extremely easy to make sweet. It can be made in 10 minutes and kids will love this. Moong dal is rich in protein so this can be made into a tasty and quick after school snack.
The ingredients list is short – Cardamom powder, moong dal, sugar, ghee, cashew nuts (optional) and raisins (optional).
The usual proportion of dal to sugar is 4:3. But you can alter it based on your palate.
Crush / powder cardamom or use store bought cardamom (elachi) powder. I usually powder it along with another ingredient that needs to be powdered.
Powder sugar into a fine powder.
Dry roast moong dal for a few minutes till the raw smell is gone and then grind it into a powder. To remove coarse particles, sieve and then grind again.
Sieve together all the powdered items. And pour the hot ghee into the powder little by little while mixing continuously.
Stop adding ghee when the ball you make with your hands is able to hold its shape.
This is a good finger exercise for children. They learn cooking while enjoying this sensory activity.
Balls are ready. Store in an air tight box and Enjoy.
