Long tailed daisy stitch is a chain stitch variation. It is nothing but a lazy daisy with a long tail. It is used to embroider floral buds and small leaves in floral sprays.
Knowing how to stitch the chain stitch will help but it is not mandatory.
Bring the needle up. Go back down in the same spot and come back up a little further away just like you would do in a chain stitch. The working thread is looped around the needle as shown below.
So here is the difference between regular chain / lazy daisy and long tailed lazy daisy. Usually we anchor the chain to the fabric by going down very close to the tip of the chain like shown below.
Instead of going down there, we add a tail to the chain and go down a little further away.
This stitch is very easy and versatile and can be adapted to embroider a lot of things. Place them in a semi circle
This can be used to embroider peacock feathers.
Stitch them around a circle to make a pretty flower.
