Laced Parallel Running Stitch is yet another very simple and easy lacing stitch that can be taught to children to improve fine motor skills.
Make a base with parallel running stitches.
Lace the needle through two stitches as shown below. The needle is facing down.
Then the needle makes a U turn and is laced through the next pair of parallel stitches.
This weaving motion can be a fun stitching exercise for 6 – 8 year old kids.
This is also a good exercise to teach kids to gently pull the thread when sewing with hand. When pulled hard, the stitch will be distorted. They can be taught to apply uniform tension through out so that every stitch will be look the same.
