Kamal Kadai is an Indian embroidery stitch that is usually done on sarees and duppattas. It is a weaving stitch so this can be done even on flimsy material. Major part of the stitching is done only on the surface. The fabric is poked only to stitch the base.
A base is first stitched.
The base is ready for first petal.
The weaving can be done with same color thread or a different one.
Bring the needle up at the center and start weaving. The needle will pass under alternate threads. In the picture below, the needle passes under the 2nd, 4th and 6th thread and passes over 1st, 3rd and 5th.
For the return journey, the needle with pass under the 1st, 3rd and 5th.
Repeat the steps.
The left most and right most threads are shorter. Once you reach the end, simply ignore and weave under the remaining threads,
The petal is complete.
