In this tutorial, I have shown how the Diamond stitch is made. This needlepoint stitch is usually used as a filling stitch on plastic canvas or mono canvas. It can, however, be used as a border stitch also.
I am using mono canvas for this demo. We will be making short straight stitches of varying lengths.
First diamond is done.
Continue making more diamonds. But note how there is a gap between the diamonds. This is the difference between the diamond stitch and the Hungarian diamond stitch.

I want to use two colors in this demo. I believe it is easier to finish one color and then simply fill the gaps with the other. So, after finishing the 1st row, I am starting the 3rd row now. But if you prefer to change colors now, you have to start row 2 which will be right next to row 1.
Filling the gaps with orange.

Corners and edges will have half diamonds/ triangles.
This stitch can be used as filling stitch when making 3D shapes like tissue box cover, bags, purses etc with plastic canvas
