Damask Darning / Pattern Darning is surface embroidery made with parallel running stitches.
Some patterns are reversible. This is the back side of this pattern.
Custom designs can be drawn by anyone. I made this very simple pattern on MS Paint like this. It took me longer than stitching this pattern. A pencil and paper (if possible with grid patterns) would do. Got kids or younger siblings who use checkered notebooks? Take a sheet of paper when they are not looking. Or you could ask for permission (This is me being politically correct 🙂 ).
So this is how damask darning is done. As you must have seen above, I started each line with a fresh thread. Choose chunky thread if the aida has fewer squares per inch (meaning bigger squares). This is quiet easy and self explanatory.
With this, we have completed the pattern.

You can choose to repeat this pattern like so.
Finished work will look like this.
